In communities with fewer than 25,000 people, like Wimer, 95% of emergency responders are volunteers. We need dedicated individuals to join our team and help keep our wonderful community safe from fires and emergencies.
Who We Are
Evans Valley Fire District #6 is a rural fire protection district that responds to an average of 450 calls for service annually. Our team is made up of:
- A paid Fire Chief and Training Officer
- 6 college students in our Student Staffing Program
- 10-20 volunteer responders
- 30-50 support/auxiliary volunteers
We serve the community through duty shifts and home response, always ready to answer the call.
What We Do
As a part of our team, you’ll respond to a variety of emergencies, including:
- Medical emergencies (EMS)
- Building/structure fires
- Vehicle crashes and roadway emergencies
- Initial attack wildfire response
- Large wildfire deployments
What We Provide
We equip you with everything you need to succeed, including:
- Full uniforms, PPE, wildland fire gear, and turnout firefighting gear
- Comprehensive training:
- CPR/First Aid
- Basic Firefighter Training (40 hours in person, 20 hours self-study)
- Basic Wildland Firefighter Training (10 hours self-study, 8 hours in person)
- EMT courses and more
Volunteer Roles
Responder Volunteer
- Must be 18 years old, have a valid driver’s license, and an insurable driving record.
- Pass a pre-employment drug test and background check.
- Complete a physical ability test within 6 minutes (we’ll help you prepare and offer retakes if needed).
- Provide 24 hours of station standby hours monthly and maintain training certifications.
Student Volunteer
- Pursue any approved college degree (not limited to fire science or EMS).
- Meet the requirements of a response volunteer.
- Work on a rotating schedule of 10 24-hour shifts per month (48 hours on, 96 hours off)..
