We are in great need of volunteer responders to join our family and keep this wonderful community, and it's people safe from fire and other emergencies.
The Evans Valley Fire District is a rural fire protection district that responds to an average of 450 calls for service a year. The fire district‘s family consists of a paid fire chief, paid training officer, 6 college students, 10-20 volunteer responders, and 30-50 support/auxiliary volunteer. We provide services through duty shifts and home response.
Types of emergencies we respond to include:
EMS and medical emergencies
Building/Structure fires
Vehicle crashes and roadway emergencies
Initial attack wildfire response
Deployment to large wildfires
We also provide you with all a full uniform set, PPE, wildland fire and bunker/turnout firefighting gear, and training you need to perform your job duties including:
CPR/First Aid
Basic Firefighter (40 hours in person/20 hours self-study)
Basic Wildland Firefighter (10 hours self study/8 hours in person)
EMT courses
and more.
All Levels: 18 years old, valid driver’s license, insurable driving record, pass a pre-employment drug test and criminal history background check. Have an interview with the district training officer.
Responders: Firefighters must pass a physical ability test. Provide 24 hours of station standby hours a month and attend training sufficient to maintain your certifications.
Physical Ability Test: Time limit is 6 minutes to complete the test. Volunteers come in many shapes and sizes so don't feel intimidated! If you happen to exceed the 6-minute time, you can retake it. We'll also help you practice the tasks before or after taking the test.
Students: Pursue ANY approved (not just fire science or EMS) college degree and meet the requirements of a response volunteer. Students are placed on a shift, (A,B,C) and are required to work 10, 24hr shifts a month on a 48 hrs on/96 hrs off rotation.
Support/Auxiliary: live in the community of Wimer and or Rogue River. Participate in fundraising activities, local community events, and district support activities.
